Ghost blog part 2 - Froslass and Gengar

Image
Now that I've bawwed about Giratina-O, lets talk about my quest to try and find replacements. Spoiler alert - there still aren't really that are that good, but really, sometimes if you really need something for a specific job, then maybe one of these could work better. Unfortunately I don't have time go through all of them, so lets just do Froslass and Gengar for now. Froslass I think Froslass is easily the most established non-Giratina Ghost. Therefore - I'll try not to spend too much time on it. The second set I'm pretty proud of because I've tweaked with it for a good amount. Froslass @ Focus Sash Ability: Snow Cloak EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Naive nature - Taunt - Spikes - Shadow Ball - Ice Shard / Icy Wind This set is pretty well established so I'll be quick about it. Standard suicide lead Froslass - I think it gets very unfairly bashed at times, you get the fraud accusation thrown at it every so often. It's really unique though, no other lead...

2025 Gimmicks Part 2

Image
Part 2 Azelf @ Focus Sash   Ability: Levitate   EVs: 60 HP / 188 Atk / 44 Def / 216 Spe   Jolly Nature   - Stealth Rock   - U-turn   - Explosion   - Taunt This looks like Mew and plays like it. The difference is the power output, and the fact that it will always outspeed Tentacruel to prevent Toxic Spikes going up turn 1 (not sure if or when people are going to creep Tentacruel to max speed or not). The power difference between Azelf U-turn and Mew U-turn is pretty significant: 188 Atk Azelf U-turn vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Deoxys-Speed: 156-184 (51.3 - 60.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock 252 Atk Mew U-turn vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Deoxys-Speed: 140-166 (46 - 54.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock 252+ Atk Choice Band Technician Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Deoxys-Speed: 177-208 (58.2 - 68.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock 252+ Atk Life Orb Rayquaza Extreme Speed vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Deoxys-Speed: 15...

2025 gimmicks/sets - part 1

Image
Here's a bunch of stupid gimmicks that I've come up with over the last year or so, in no particular order of viability/discovery I have way more, I'm just taking too long to write them all so I'll release in smaller chunks Dragonite @ Choice Band   Ability: Inner Focus   EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe   Adamant Nature   - Outrage   - Superpower   - Extreme Speed   - Fire Punch I might do a bit more of a deeper dive on double or even triple Dragon structures a bit later if I ever work up the motivation (questionable). For now, let's talk about CB Dragonite. I've written a paragraph about Dragonite before , but this is a different idea. The thing about Dragonite is that it like about 90% outclassed by not only one, but two Dragon-types in DPP Ubers (Rayquaza and Salamence), so you really need to hone in on what Dragonite has over the other two. Agility and subtle movepool advantages are the only things that it rea...

Few quick-ish thoughts

Image
So yeah, I've been busy, and some mixed results after my big slump hasn't really improved my motivation. I might just rapid fire a few random facts/strategies that's popped into my consciousness over the last few months (for standard): 1) CM/Recover Mewtwo vs Bronzong interaction Key damage calculation: 0 Atk Bronzong Explosion vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Mewtwo: 355-418 (85.3 - 100.4%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO Assuming no Toxic or Hypnosis hit, 252 HP/4 Def Mewtwo actually beats Bronzong 1v1 most of the time. The chance you get killed by an Explosion at max HP is basically the same chance as a crit. This means, barring a Bronzong that has Toxic, the ideal play (assuming you haven't got something that beats Bronzong even harder like Palkia or Ho-oh or Forry/Skarm, you should just keep spamming Recover to stall out Payback PP. If you Recover back to 100%, you can tank the boom most of the time and still have your Mewtwo around (potentially only to die to Shadow Sneak after but the...

Anti-"Lead Kyogre" openings

Image
So initially I was going to try and take the first step in reigniting my attempt to do a Farceus PR post by doing section 1 where I go through the shambolic 2020 vote. The plan was to do it in sections over multiple blogs, and once I have enough material I can post it to PR. Unfortunately, the last few weeks has just been a rollercoaster emotionally/mentally and I'm only just getting better now so I've had no motivation to write about Farceus. #iykyk Anyway I'm sort of back, I'll do something relatively quick. I think I'll finally do a bit of a trashpost on lead Ogre like what I did with Giratina-O. Again, like Gira-O, I absolutely respect what Kyogre can do as a lead and it definitely has a place in the lead metagame, it just has some serious issues that you have to be careful of and is not as easy to just slap onto something as you might think. Anyway - let's talk about the good things about lead Ogre first. Firstly, it has multiple sets it can run so it's...

CREATINAAAAA! What I don't like about Giratina(-O) - Part 1 exploration of DPP Ubers spinblockers

Image
So I've been kind of teasing this entry for a while now and I've finally got my ass off the seat to write about it. If you hang around DPP Ubers circles these days you'd probably see me trash Giratina-O every so often like I trash Ekiller in other gens. Am I just trolling? The answer to that is absolutely yes. I have to add the disclaimer that I still absolutely respect Giratina-O's place in the DPP Ubers metagame and what it adds to a lot of teams. That being said, like what I do with Ekiller, I exaggerate my disdain for it when it gets glazed (although a lot of the time Gira-O is not getting glazed and I'm pushing my frustrations at it after certain unimpressed turns of Pokemon). I will get into Gira-A closer to the end too but this is more about Gira-O, and part 2 would be detailing my quest to find replacements for Gira-O on teams where it doesn't fit as well (spoiler alert - there aren't any good replacements but some very niche ones that could be int...
